My husband, Parthiv and I (mostly me) had been wanting to add a furry little companion into our family for a while now. Our first options were the local SPCAs. We started looking everyday on their websites and other adoption websites since September of 2018. We filled out numerous applications week after week only to be told there was a long waiting list. We were specifically looking for a newborn puppy – no more than 6 months old. With no luck, in mid December I decided that I would start looking at Craigslist postings for a puppy. At this point we had done enough research to know that we wanted a small breed dog that would grow no more than 20-25 pounds. With a little luck and timing we found our puppy! She was located all the way in Hollister, CA (about 75 miles south of where we live).

She was the last one left in the litter and we rushed down to meet her. The previous owner had sent me a picture of her. As soon as I saw her, I knew I would be naming her Brie because of her smooth white coat with a tinge of cream in it. We instantly fell in love when we saw her in person. We wondered why she was not chosen among her siblings because to us she was so cute! The owner told us Brie’s parents were both Maltipoos (Maltese and Mini-Poodle mix) and we met both of them. However, Brie looked nothing like her curly haired siblings and parents. By looking at the pictures she doesn’t look like a maltipoo at all, we will discuss this in a future post! She and one of her other siblings had straight hair; we thought maybe that’s why she wasn’t chosen.

She was playing with her brother the first time we saw her and in just a few minutes she over turned her brother and showed him who was the boss – that’s when I knew she was meant to join our family. Feisty, fierce, and spunky, that’s our Brie!

We brought her home on Christmas Eve and she’s been a bundle of joy and medley of mischief ever since! Parthiv and I wanted to train her well and for her to have good behavioral traits. So we enrolled her in puppy classes at just 12 weeks of age. She was the youngest puppy in the class; a full month younger than the second youngest but she did so well in the classes! She quickly learnt how to sit, heel, walk on a leash and lay down on command. We are proud to say that Brie is now an AKC Puppy Graduate!

We are currently in the continued process of having her potty trained – it’s been the most challenging part of having a puppy! Parthiv is so dedicated to her; he is constantly training her to keep her skills sharp and consistently taking her out for potty breaks. He is the best!

We will be embarking on our first family trip to Edmonton the first weekend of May! More details to follow!
